Two shooting incidents leave one dead

Illigal mining activity suspected to be cause of shooting.

Rivalry between illegal miners led to two shooting incidents on Friday afternoon 4 March, according to unofficial sources.

One man was killed and two others injured in two shooting incidents on Albertina Sisulu Road in Roodepoort behind the Roodepoort Rugby Club, according to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene of the first incident to find a crowd surrounding a severely injured man. Paramedics immediately assessed the patient, finding that he was shot multiple times.

The man sustained severe injuries to his abdomen and arm, causing severe blood loss. Advanced life support treatment was administered on the patient after which an ER24 helicopter airlifted him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

About an hour later, a second shooting occurred some meters away from the first scene. In this incident men were said to have been arguing when one of them fired shots at the other two.

This is according to a security guard who witnessed the shooting.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find one of the victims dead and the other injured.
Once the injured man was stabilised on scene, he was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.

The two incidents are being investigated by the SAPS, but Florida Police did not want to comment on the incident saying they will refer it to provincial level for comment.
