Let’s be honest about rape: Ikeomu talks books

Author N Edward Ikeomu talks about his latest book, Taming the Roaming Beast.

After reading and reviewing the book, Taming the Roaming Beast by N Edward Ikeomu, the Record started a discussion with the author about what is next in fixing South Africa’s mindset about rape.

“You know, nobody thought that this book could be done, that something could be written about the male rape mentality.

“People that I know had been raped and this book was as much a personal struggle to me as a personal achievement.

“A lot of books have been written that draw attention to the aftermath of rape, specifically on the female body and psychology, but as far as I have read I couldn’t find a book that attempts to explain the male side of it.

Ikeomu acknowledges that rape is performed not only by males, and the aftermath is not solely felt by the female body – and that the opposite could be true – but says that this book was representative of the norm.

“It is just an introduction, though,” says Ikeomu, who plans bigger things for the future.

“I want to follow this book up with more in-depth study on both sides of the spectrum, to understand what might cause the rape mentality and what might curb it or prevent it from even being a thought.”

Ikeomu was challenged by the Record about whether anyone of any religion would read this book, seeing that it is written from a Christian perspective.

Ikeomu’s book is to be donated to local schools and is free to download online at https://www.edwardikeomu.co.za/.
