Lions Club seeks sponsors for Buddy Day

With Buddy Day set for April, the Lions Club International asks for sponsors towards drinks.

“Unfortunately, for the first time in about nine years the Lions won’t be receiving sponsored bottled water and cold drinks from the Coca-Cola company,” Dee Easton, handling the Lions Club Buddy Day public relations, told the Record.

On the day, both Buddies and pupils get sponsored T-shirts of different colours and are entertained with many fun activities, performances and free food and drink. The Lions Club International calls on local businesses to help them realise another successful Buddy Day by either sponsoring the bottled water and cold drinks this year or giving a monetary donation towards it.”Since we fund most of the day’s activities from the Lions’ Club funds, it would be near impossible to add this expense to the list.”

Karl Bands, past charter president of the Helderkruin Lions and the Buddy Day convener in 2012, summed it up as “taking pupils with special educational needs and pairing them up with volunteer high school pupils from Grades 10, 11 and 12 (matric) for a fun-filled day”.

As Monash South Africa in Ruimsig sports the first-ever chartered campus club in South Africa, some students also will be volunteering.

The Buddy Day is scheduled for Saturday 12 April at West Ridge High School, Horizon View, Roodepoort. For further information, contact Dee Easton via email at easton.denise@yahoo.co.uk.
