Road surface at Westgate bridge deteriorating

Vehicles in potential danger due to bad road surface.

The ever deteriorating state of roads of Roodepoort is going from bothersome to shameful.

One such spot that has worsened over the past year is at the intersection at the top of Crous Drive just past the Westgate bridge.

This piece of road sees high volumes of traffic every day, especially as this intersection also serves as two entrances to the Westgate Shopping Centre.

The road is littered with potholes right in the middle of the intersection, making it impossible for motorists coming from which ever of the four directions to avoid them. During peak traffic the Record has been witness to motorists being forced to perform dangerous manoeuvres to avoid the potholes and each other.

The Record counted at least ten large potholes and numerous small ones. Furthermore the road is strewn with gravel from the potholes and it is clear that the only solution to the problem would be complete resurfacing.

The Record contacted Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) spokesperson Sam Modiba to find out if any repairs were on the cards for in the area soon but was referred to Mosa Mokhalima, also of JRA, who after numerous attempts still could not be reached.
