At approximately 9.30am on 19 December a JMPD patrol car noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle on Gordon Road travelling from the N1 highway.
The patrol car indicated to the vehicle, a BMW, to pull over but as officers approached the vehicle after it had stopped, it sped off.
The Metro police gave chase and shots were exchanged. Half way up William Nicol Road towards Ontdekkers Road the suspects crashed the car and abandoned it.
The JMPD officers found the car’s boot filled with abelone. The value and amount is still unknown.
A manhunt involving a helicopter, the SAPS and JMPD is under way as the two suspects is still at large.
