Blind singer entertains Witpoortjie seniors

Witpoortjie senior residents rejoiced in Viljoen's gospel music on Tuesday.

The residents of Witpoortjie Senior Park were entertained by singer Len Viljoen on Tuesday 26 November.

At around 2.30pm, blind gospel singer Len entered the crowded dining room where seniors could enjoy his music free of charge. The pamphlet advertising the event referred to him as “a very talented gospel singer”.

Although no admission fee was asked, a collection was held for donations to cover his travel costs. Viljoen also sold his album at the Park at R70 each.

Residents rejoiced in his praising music and were impressed especially by his last song with Afrikaans lyrics about Christmas and its true meaning to Christians.

Viljoen said that the money collected would not be taken as a salary but that it would cover his travelling costs and go towards helping blind people in his hometown, which is Worcester in the Western Cape.

Other Christmas celebrations at the Witpoortjie Senior Park included a Christmas lunch on Friday 29 November at 1pm and carols by candlelight courtesy of the Full Gospel church in Witpoortjie at 7pm.
