Celeb shoe auction for charity

Celebrity-inspired shoes will be auctioned off at the Alice Art Gallery.

It doesn’t really matter how far you are willing to walk for a good cause, a journey of a thousand miles is determined by your shoes. The Alice Art gallery is having a shoe auction to raise funds for abused women and children on Thursday 26 September.

The gallery is working in collaboration with Zivaglo, a creative platform that offers designs and crafts shoes suited for famous personalities, to auction off some of their more famous work.

Zivaglo uses its creations to raise funds for abused women and children and support the Safehouse Centre in Stellenbosch and the Tamar Centre in Thailand.

Cecile Walters of Zivaglo told the Record that they look forward to auctioning off “beautifully decorated shoes that were made for celebrities or the artists themselves”.

“These shoes were inspired by each celebrity’s unique walk in life and what they stand for.”

Walters describes each shoe as “a unique telling of their lives”.

In order for Zivaglo to make the shoe, they asked the celebrities to tell them in one word what ‘travelling light’ means to them.

At the Alice Art Gallery in Dryfstraat in Ruimsig, residents can go view and bid on shoes inspired by famous personalities such as Alice Pitzer, Chris Chameleon, Helen Bester, Jonel Scholtz, Marianne Vorster and Christelle Griessel.

Zivaglo shoes also were displayed at the Woordfees in Stellenbosch in March this year.

At the Alice Art Gallery, residents will be treated to a reading by Bertha le Roux (Emma in 7de Laan) while viewing the shoes.

The auction starts at 7pm. Entrance is R100 per person.

To secure your seat, contact Cecile Walters on 082 456 0136 or Alice Pitzer on 083 377 1392.

A second auction will be held on Thursday 3 October at the Afrique Boutique Hotel in Equestrian Street, Ruimsig.

Shoes inspired by Anna Davel, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Elvis Blue, Laurika Rauch, Michelle van Breda and Riaan Cruywagen will be up for auction.

The auction starts at 7pm. To secure your seat for the October auction, contact Afrique on 011 958 0855.
