Metrobus hijacked

Second attack on Metrobus in same area.

A Metrobus was robbed and hijacked for the second time in six months in the same area.

On 29 August at approximately 6.30 pm Natalie Mvambo (50) was about to get off the Ghandi Square to Florida bus in Delarey on Ontdekkers Road. Shortly before her drop-off point seven to eight armed men boarded the bus. According to Mvambo she could deduct that the men were Zimbabwean nationals because “they spoke Shona and the way they spoke Zulu”.

The men split up between the lower and upper deck of the bus and ordered the driver and all passengers to hand over all money and valuables.

The men then instructed the driver at gunpoint to close the door and speed off towards Roodepoort. Close to Gordon Road they ordered the driver to stop. They got off and fled to a nearby suburb.

No one has been injured and a case has been opened at the Florida Police Station.

Metrobus could not be reached for comment.
