Man sentenced to 30 years after murdering his girlfriend

Sihle Ngubane (20) who shot and killed his girlfriend after an argument in Roodepoort on 16 March 2012 was sentenced in the South Gauteng High Court on 3 June, according to Roodepoort SAPS spokesperson Vincent Mashiteng.

The murder took place in Lufhereng but police arrested the accused the following day in Protea Glen, Soweto. The investigating officer was able to recover the firearm that was used in the murder. The officer also prevented the accused from getting bail and managed to track down witnesses who could testify against Ngubane.

Ngubane was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment for murder (Count one), three years for unlawful possession of a firearm (Count two) and two years for the unlawful possession of ammunition (Count three). Count two and Count three of the sentence will run concurrently with Count one.
