Crime battles in Sector 3

Increase in crime a huge concern for police.

Honeydew Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 3 has hailed police and other law enforcement agencies for the successful arrest of the infamous Silver Volvo gang.

The police were given a round of applause for the successful arrest during a Sector 3 meeting held at Eagle View Guesthouse and Conference Centre on 16 August.

The two suspects, who are linked to several house-breakings and hijackings in different police precincts, were arrested after an attempt to rob a property in Strubens Valley on 15 August.

This arrest was meant to bring some relief to residents. However, Honeydew Police’s Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs was still concerned about the increase in business break-ins, common assault, robberies and house-breakings, especially in Radiokop.

Jacobs also reminded the forum to physically check if their cars are locked before walking away at shopping centres. She further warned about leaving valuable items in the car.

Honeydew station commander, Brigadier Anesh Maharaj, urged residents to call 10111 in case of an emergency. “The best number to call in case of an emergency is 10111. It is always available even during strikes. The calls are recorded, which helps with any after-the-fact investigations into police delays, and callers should get a reference number,” Maharaj explained.
