Narrow miss of damage to Pipeline Project

WELTEVREDEN PARK – High speeds and alcohol lands a vehicle in a pipeline project trench.

A vehicle travelling on JG Strydom Road drove into a trench of the F46 Pipeline Project.

Jan von der Hyde, community liaison officer of the Pipeline Project, confirmed that the pipe lying in the trench, where the car landed, was not damaged.

The incident, which occurred at 7.15am on 19 November, was witnessed by a Satenga Security guard who was on duty at the time. Community support services were alerted to the scene but it had already been reported.

Chief executive officer of Community Support Services, Greg Pearce, confirmed the incident and relayed that the car had left the road at a high speed and plunged into the trench in the road reserve next to JG Strydom.

The security guard reported that the driver smelled strongly of liquor and was unsteady on his feet but he was not seriously injured.

Von der Hyde, said, “This incident shows that drivers need to be careful and stick to the speed limit. Also, after hours [ when the trenches are not worked on] parents should make sure that their children do not play on the road or near the trenches.”
