What you need to know about crime in Panorama

PANORAMA – Panorama Resident's Association holds general meeting to discuss important issues in the area.

The Panorama Residents Association held their annual general meeting (AGM) at Panorama Primary School with a positive number of members attending.

A number of issues were discussed at the meeting on 25 October. Guest speaker, Johan Pretorius, chief operating officer and co-founder of Vumatel spoke about some of the issues raised by concerned residents due to recent damages caused by fibre installation in the area.

“If damages to services occur, we try to take care of it as quickly as possible, because it also affects the way that people perceive us,” said Pretorius. He added that about six of the damages could be contributed to human error while about four errors could be contributed to a single project manager. According to him, the installation is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Chairperson of the Panorama RA, Jon Rosenberg talked about the crime trends in the area. Rosenberg said that most residential break-ins take place on Fridays and a popular time for crime incidents is around 4pm to 6pm. However, in October more crimes started taking place between 3am and 4am.

Rosenberg encouraged people to get their neighbours involved in the RA as it has many advantages. The WhatsApp groups have been working very well. Within minutes of an incident, more than one security company is on the scene alongside other reaction units. Rosenberg also asked people to remove their Pikitup bins as quickly as possible as criminals tend to use them as ladders to gain access to properties.

He also said that criminals put stolen goods in the bin and role it away with no one suspecting a thing.

Rosenberg mentioned the F46 Rand Water pipeline project and said that it may have an impact on traffic in the future. One side of JG Strydom Road will be closed.
