JOBURG – In celebration of Mandela Day, we take a look at 67 remarkable places worth visiting in Johannesburg.

 

There is no shortage of spectacular places in Johannesburg. This list of 67 places shows impressive transport-ways, buildings with modern and unique architecture as well as buildings of great heritage.

This list also includes beautiful nature sites to show that this city is more than a concrete jungle.

1. Gillooly’s Interchange – one of the busiest intersections in Johannesburg.

2. The old Elephant house at the Joburg Zoo is over 110 years old.

3. The Ponte Towers is a very unique apartment complex in the CBD.

4. 11 Diagonal Street – this glass building reminds one of a building in America.

5. Mogale City Town Hall is over a 100 years old. The family of the builder still lives in Krugersdorp.

6. The High Court in the CBD is an impressive building and handles many important court cases on a daily basis.

7. Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown. Mary Fitzgerald is considered to have been the first female trade unionist in the country.

8. Marble towers in the CBD was built in 1973 and is 32 storeys tall.

9. The Gables in Weltevreden Park is an impressive old building in Roodepoort.

10. Nelson Mandela Statue in the Square at Sandton City is a bronze statue and weighs 2.5 tons.
