Dios Los Ninos gives back to the community

WILGEHEUWEL – Pupils work together to gather goods for those less fortunate.

The pupils of Dios Los Ninos (DLN) are working together to help fellow children in need.

The school supports Morning Sunshine 4 Kids in Ferndale, where a couple looks after 10 children that vary in age from infants to teenagers.

“Their biggest need was food and cleaning products. DLN decided to get involved and make a difference. The parents sent food items and cleaning products to school. They also took on the challenge of sorting out their children’s cupboards and in the process we were able to donate lovely toys and clothes to the children as well,” said principal, Leonie de Kock.

The second part of this project is called the ‘Bacon project’. The challenge is for pupils to each donate R2 on a Friday, which goes into a piggy bank. This money goes into ‘Bacon’ –the piggy bank and is used to buy more items for the children. “The first time we emptied Bacon we had about R900 inside and that was used to buy cleaning products and food for the children,” De Kock added.

DLN has also started collecting money to have the Morning Sunshine 4 Kids living area furniture steam cleaned. Items are delivered to Morning Sunshine by DLN on a regular basis.

“A farmer in Brits sent three boxes of fresh vegetables for them, another lady organized for the children to go and see Disney on Ice and Toyota will be transporting them there and back in one of their vehicles. Impala Fruit and Veg also agreed to send them items on a weekly basis. Together we are making a difference in the lives of these children,” De Kock exclaimed.
