Crime awareness walk

WELTEVREDEN PARK –Crime awareness campaign knocks on doors to distribute vital information.

Crime awareness is of the utmost importance during the holiday season and Honeydew SAPS and CPF encourage residents to keep safe.

The crime awareness campaign involves the distribution of important safety tips used for crime prevention. Security companies, Honeydew SAPS and Honeydew CPF embarked on a pamphlet distribution walk on 23 March.

Each house and complex on Vale, Moss and Brooke roads in Weltevreden Park was given a pamphlet detailing safety tips as well as SAPS sector vehicle numbers. Honeydew SAPS Sector 2 manager Sergeant Nicolas Makhura explained that each of the streets was selected due to crime hotspots in the area near Palm Court Shopping Centre. “We as police, CPF and security companies want to proactively ensure that residents know the correct emergency numbers as well as how to keep their home safe by using these tips,” added Sgt Makhura.

The walk was effective, although members were met with some reluctance. Each home was handed a pamphlet. Honeydew CPF public relations officer Jon Rosenberg commented, “Although this is a great initiative we will target busier areas on the weekends when the community is at home.” He further thanked SAPS and the security companies for their assistance.

Details: SAPS sector 2 vehicle numbers, 071 675 7102 or 071 675 7112.
