Absolutely egg(static)!

ALLEN'S NEK – Allen Glen pupils plan to spread the Easter cheer as they host an egg drive.

Allen Glen High School cannot wait to spread some joy on Easter as the pupils are collecting eggs to donate to Golang Outreach Education.

The school’s Grade 8, 9 and 10 maths teacher, Natasha Moodley said she was inspired to start the egg drive after she saw a Facebook post that a former pupil posted.

She decided to team up with an initiative called ‘Charity Begins With Me.’ To encourage learners she decided to approach the RCL representatives to join her in her quest.

“The pupils were all very keen to do the drive and I was so happy to see their excitement,” said Moodley. To date, the school has raised about 800 eggs and plan to go far beyond that number by 17 March when they will donate the eggs to Golang Outreach Education in Zandspruit.

Kgahliso Nolo, one of the RCL representatives said that he was encouraged to be part of the egg drive because he wants to give back any way he can. “I’ve been privileged enough to get the luxuries I ask for so I just want to do things for others,” said Nolo.

Fellow RCL representative, Thando Hadebe said that she saw the opportunity to give back and she thought to join in. “I hope my peers get inspired by our actions and are motivated to do the same for others,” said Hadebe.

Moodley concluded that some classes have even gone as far as clubbing in money together to buy eggs as a class.”The whole experience of giving back and encouraging children to get integrated with the community in doing something like this is definitely great,” said Moodley.
