Cats are treated well at the Roodepoort SPCA

ROODEPOORT – Dumped cats get warm rooms and food at the SPCA.

All these cats needed was a warm home with someone to give them food.

But all they got from their owners were cold shoulders and poor treatment.

The cute cats were rescued and are housed at the Roodepoort SPCA, where they are fed every day and kept in small, neatly decorated rooms.

Their little warm rooms are furnished with couches, pillows, cushions, blankets, mattresses and enough healthy food to eat throughout the day.

Some have roommates, some created friendships outside their own rooms, some stay as families, and some stay alone.

At the back of their rooms are small windows allowing the cats access to a small garden.

“These cats were dumped, some we picked up in the streets of Roodepoort and some were donated by their owners who said they don’t want the cats anymore. Instead of throwing these cats out in the streets, leaving them to take care of themselves, we are encouraging residents to at least send them to their nearest SPCA,” said Roodepoort SPCA Inspector Mike Allen.

He said just like with dogs, an owner can be taken to court by neglecting a cat if that case is reported to the SPCA.

Insp Allen stressed that dumping animals is not a good practice.

“Why do you keep them if you don’t need or love them? Why adopt them in the first place?” he asked.

Insp Allen added that they supply the cats with toys to make them feel welcome and entertained every day.

Insp Allen encouraged residents to adopt a cat from the Roodepoort SPCA, if they meet all the requirements.
