Harveston Retirement Village holds fundraiser for Sarda

RUIMSIG – Christmas in July raises funds for Sarda.

Agnes Elliot, resident of the Harveston Retirement Village and long-time volunteer at the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda) decided to hold a ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser.

Much effort was made for the event – the hall was decorated in a winter-wonderland theme with handmade snowflakes, Christmas trees and fairy lights. The hall was full and the turnout was immense.

Julia Morris, Sarda fundraiser, was pleased with the outcome. “A painting by artist Clive Lewis was donated as well as a R1500 Pick n Pay voucher – both of which were raffled. There had also been a small concert held previously. All proceeds from the events went to Sarda and the total amount donated was R18 000.”

About 100 disabled children from disadvantaged backgrounds come to ride each week at no charge, so the association relies on donations. The donated money will go toward Sarda’s running costs, which equate to around R50 000 per month.
