JAM’s wish list

HONEYDEW — JAM raises awareness to feed and develop children in poor communities.

Volunteers from the Joint Aid Management were out collecting donations at Clearwater Mall as part of their Mandela Day initiative on 18 July.

JAM’s admin manager Trish Henry said Mandela Day has always been big for the organisation because their primary focus is working with children.

“Madiba loved children and that is a part of what we do. We feed more than 62 000 children in five provinces.”

In addition to feeding children in informal settlements, the organisation often has volunteers from their overseas branches to give makeovers to several day-care centres they feed. Leizle Eykelhof, JAM’s communications officer, said they also provide training to childminders and caregivers in early childhood development centres.

“Once the makeovers are done we try to get the centres registered with the Gauteng Department of Education.”
