Rand Water planned shutdown to affect Joburg Water customers in Roodepoort

It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after the supply has been fully restored.

Johannesburg Water (JW) customers are to experience water outages during Rand Water’s (RW) planned shutdown.

JW has sent out a media statement informing their customers about a planned RW shutdown taking place from June 20 from 19:00 to June 22 at 15:00. According to JW, the purpose of the planned shutdown is to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 with a new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and systems upgrades at RW’s Eikenhof pump station.

JW mentioned that the following RW reservoirs will be affected: Waterval 1 and 2, Weltevreden, Roodepoort, and Meredale 1 and 2.

“During the shutdown, JW infrastructure supplied by the pump station will be affected by no water supply. It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after the supply has been fully restored,” explained JW.

The statement continued by saying all areas receiving direct water supply from RW will also be impacted by the shutdown. JW will make arrangements for alternative water supply at strategic areas like hospitals, clinics, schools, municipal offices, police stations and shopping centres. Residents will receive regular updates on the official JW social media platforms.
