Crawfordian going to Limpopo!

Cruz is a defensive player who prefers to play on the right or left side of the wings because he can use his speed to take on players, cross the ball into the box, and score goals when the opportunity arises.

Cruz Keanu Khan, a Grade 7 learner at Crawford International Ruimsig, has been selected to represent the West Rand Primary Schools Football Association.

The association recently took part in the Abdul Bhamjee Football Tournament and won their first tournament as a team. According to the school, Cruz is looking forward to playing in the inter-regional tournament that will be held in Limpopo in June later this year.

Cruz’s football journey started at the tender age of five when he was enrolled in Soccer Stars which was an extra activity offered by his nursery school at the time.

When Cruz turned six years old his parents registered him at the Florida Albion Football Club where he played for two seasons.

“We soon realized Cruz has a passion for soccer together with his potential we decided to enroll him at the Randburg Football Club which exposed him to different types of training facilities, coaching techniques, and better opportunities,” explained his mother, Chrystal.

Cruz was doing extra training with SuperSport twice a week at the time, which helped his early football development. He was allowed to try for Rangers Football Club, which he did, and spent one season with them.

Cruz returned to Randburg Football Club the following season at the age of 11 after being offered a chance to play in a higher age group and a more competitive league known as the South African Academy League.

“This was a good experience for him as he had to work hard to keep up with the boys as they were bigger, faster, and stronger than he was,” added Chrystal.

Cruz was chosen to play for Randburg Football Club in the Gauteng Development League this year, and he has already scored his first goal in two games.

“Cruz’s success is a result of his consistent hard work, dedication, and self-discipline,” concluded Chrystal.
