Nova Pioneer Ruimsig hosts a Sports Festival.

On Saturday, March 4, Nova Pioneer Ruimsig (NPR) hosted its first Sports Festival.

The day was festive and the weather was perfect. Teachers arrived as early as 05:30 to start preparing for the day.

The purpose of the event was to foster relationships between NPR’s peer schools and create a healthy sporting culture.

“It was an opportunity for our learners to connect with learners from neighbouring schools and build a healthy culture of sportsmanship. We invited six schools from the community to participate in the sports festival hosting both netball and soccer tournaments,” exclaimed Carla Hercules, NPR School Leader, “I am proud to announce that Nova Pioneer Ruimsig won the Netball Tournament and The Ruimsig Soccer Academy was the overall soccer winner.”

Parents and peer schools picnicked and enjoyed the various foods on sale. NPR parents volunteered to braai, make popcorn and prepare food to sell.

“In addition to the Sports Festival, we also hosted our Pre-School Fun Sports Day. Parents and their children participated in fun races and activities,” added Carla.

“It was wonderful to see parents join in and have so much fun with their children. Dads and moms enjoyed the relay, three-legged, and egg and spoon races with their children. The day was an overall success, with parent involvement, teamwork, and building connections with our peer schools. This is the first of many sports festivals that we hope to organise in the future,” concluded Carla.
