Roodepoort parkrun gets underway

One special visitor Margaret McGilp from England who regularly visit her family ran her 417th parkrun on the day.

On Saturday, January 14 the Roodepoort parkrun braved the high temperature once again and ran their usual route at the Len Rutter Park.

According to Gregg Palm who is a runner and the Run Director of the day, the first run of the year was on January 1 followed by another on January 7.

Greg said the Roodepoort parkrun is like a family, it’s a free event and they have their regulars and are hoping that everyone enjoys and start their week on a high.

“Covid-19 showed us what we are missing, we will definitely have a good year and looking forward great runs,” said Gregg.

Former Discovery Primary Full-Service School teacher, Claudette McLean who resides in Fleurhof reached her 100th run milestone on the day and said that she is looking forward to reaching her 150th run.

One special visitor, Margaret McGilp from England who regularly visit her family, ran her 417th parkrun on the day.

According to Margaret, she started as one of the first runners back in 2012 and has under her belt five Comrades Marathons.

Parkrun is a collection of 5km events for walkers, runners and volunteers that take place every Saturday morning at more than 2 000 locations in 22 countries across six continents.

Junior parkrun is a spin-off event that provides a 2km event for children aged four to 14.

The Roodepoort parkrun is entirely organised by volunteers and members of the community who would like to help or volunteer are advised to email roodepoort@parkrun.com.

Roodepoort parkrun takes place every Saturday at 08:00 at Len Rutter Park, Florida Park.
