Storm floods baby sanctuary

'All those can be replaced, but my heart is broken for the things that are irreplaceable.'

Discovery — During the early hours of Friday, December 9 a devastated Georgina Caetano took to social media as her house – the Just in Time Baby Sanctuary – was being flooded due to the heavy rains.

The sanctuary founder’s initial post read: “I’ve never been so afraid. My house is flooded. I’m knee deep in water and there is NOTHING I CAN DO.”

Fortunately there were no fatalities or injuries that resulted from the incident. However, the physical damage is quite serious as very few things could be salvaged.

After having posted pictures of the disastrous effects of the storm she said, “The absolute devastation. My heart has broken a 1 000 times today … the personal loss … unthinkable. The business loss … the documentation … the exhaustion … the trauma … I have no words”.

The irreparable damaged goods include a king-size bed and mattress, fridge, freezer, washing machine, lounge suite, rugs, office desk, office chair and shelves. Damaged electronics include a laptop, camera and TV.

“All those can be replaced, but my heart is broken for the children’s art, documents, my late mother’s personal and precious poetry and art collection as well as the photos and ashes of my late son, Justin,” Caetano said.

Looking after several abandoned babies is no easy feat in itself. Having to scrape together whatever resources you can to care for them just adds insult to injury and so, Caetano desperately appeals to the community for assistance.
