Christiaan de Wet crash takes one life

One fatality and many injured in Christiaan De Wet crash.

At around 16:30 on Monday afternoon, a fatal collision occurred on Christiaan De Wet Road between Wilgerood and Wilhelmina Road. According to reports, the crash involved two motor vehicles and a delivery motorcycle. One person was killed.

“Honeydew CPF patrollers were called in to help with the road closure. The road was then strewn with sawdust to help clean up the large amount of oil left behind by the accident,” Michael Steyn, Honeydew CPF’s Spokesperson, stated.

The two vehicles collided head-on, according to Emergency Control South Africa (ECSA) Spokesperson Ian Janse van Rensburg. “The details of how the accident occurred are unknown at this stage and are subject to JMPD Accident Office investigation,” Janse van Rensburg elaborated.

He went on to say that when ECSA arrived, medics were already treating a number of patients. The patients were then taken to the hospital for further treatment.

ECSA members worked with Honeydew CPF, COJEMS, and Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch to clean up a large oil spill caused by the accident.

Around the same time a truck towing a truck broke down at the T-junction where Christiaan de Wet and Wilgerood Road meet, which also caused major traffic delays.

The Northsider reached out to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla for more information, but no response was received at the time of publication.
