Florida SAPS awarded station of the year

The Programme Director called the award "The Big One".

Effective policing requires partnership and collaboration, whether in teams of officers, collaboration between forces, multi-agency operations, wider public sector involvement as well as collaboration with the community and beyond.

In less than two years, Florida Station Commander Colonel Amos Tsotetsi managed to win a Station of the Year award with limited resources.

The SAPS Johannesburg District Excellence Awards were held in Sandton on Friday, October 14.

The Programme Director called the award “The big one”, consistency, commitment, leading by example, going the extra mile, community involvement and serving in terms of Section 205 of the Constitution.

Tsotetsi said that he is dedicating the award to the Florida police members, Florida Community involvement, CPF, Councillors, Force Multipliers (securities), Law Enforcement Agencies (JMPD, PRASA, Gautraffic etc.), media (paper or radio) and all multi-Disciplinary forces available to fight crime.

“Partnership in policing, thanks a lot, this is proof that together we can do more,” said Tsotetsi.

Ward 70 Councillor Caleb Finn congratulated Tsotetsi and the Florida police on winning the award and acknowledge that there are good officers doing good work but there remains much room for improvement.

“Police visibility remains at an all-time low and I continue to receive complaints about poor service delivery both at the Client Service Centre and very slow response to complaints. I trust that emphasis will be placed on improving visibility and services to the community,” said Finn.
