Florida SAPS members honoured for outstanding work

One suspect was shot dead, one was shot in the bum, while another was arrested on the scene.

Florida Police Station commander Colonel Amos Tsotetsi handed out certificate of appreciation to the team members involved in the arrest of three business robbers in Florida.

The robbery took place on Saturday, July 9 at the Florida Supermarket at the corner of 6th Avenue and Albertina Sisulu Road in Florida.

Members from the Florida Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) received a complaint about the business robbery in progress, and on arrival at the scene they noticed the suspects leaving the shop.

When the thugs saw them, two of them started shooting at the police, who retaliated by firing shots at the suspects.

The suspects were driving a maroon Toyota Conquest with registration RG P072 GP. The number plates turned out to be false, and the vehicle was impounded. Police recovered two firearms without serial numbers at the scene.

R6 000 in cash, different cigarettes, cell phones and medicine to the value R15 000 were also recovered.

Colonel Tsotetsi confirmed that none of the Florida police station members who were involved in the shooting were harmed, and that the investigation continues.
