Honeydew robber sentenced in the Roodepoort Regional Court

Honeydew Police investigating officer Constable Godfrey Mathevula took the lead in the investigation, administering the docket, taking fingerprints, and forensic and medical report evidence.

More than a year’s persistence for justice in an attempted murder and armed robbery court case plagued by many difficulties along the way, has finally paid off for the victim.

In the beginning of April the prosecutor and the investigators involved in the case left the Regional Court in Roodepoort beaming after a man who had been arrested within the Honeydew Police precinct back in 2020 for attempted murder and armed robbery was sentenced.

On September 30, 2020, Rodrigues Kamdemi Shifehle robbed a man close to the Bromhof Spar in Bromhof and shot him with a hand gun and fled on foot.

Shifehle was apprehended shortly after the attack through the quick response of Honeydew Police members, who on arrival at the scene ran after the suspect through a nearby veld and up a hill.

Honeydew Police investigating officer Constable Godfrey Mathevula took the lead in the investigation, administering the docket, taking fingerprints, and forensic and medical report evidence.

Shifehle aged 43 who is a Mozambican national, was found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances and sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment.

“I am satisfied with this outcome. Shifehle thought he could come to South Africa and get away with committing a violent crime, and instead he will now be in prison until the age 68,” said detective Constable Mathevula, who was very relieved by the outcome as he had been working on the case for almost two years.
