Multiple power outages in Roodepoort being attended to — City Power

Residents urged to check Twitter and ward councillor groups for updates

A stream of requests for answers is inundating City Power.

By 08:00 on April 12, City Power had logged 303 outage calls from customers in Roodepoort. There are currently multiple unrelated outages across Roodepoort, ranging from Grobler Park and Lindhaven, extending to Florida and Floracliffe and including Weltevreden Park, Honeydew, Radiokop and Strubens Valley.

The cause of the outage in Weltevreden Park, Honeydew and Radiokop is still unknown and teams have been dispatched to assess the issue. The Florida, Constantia Kloof and Floracliffe outage is due to a cable fault but at least 50% of the areas have been restored. The outage affecting Strubens Valley and Little Falls is due to the mini substation that burnt, which City Power suspected was caused by overloading.

Further west, the cause of the outage affecting Grobler Park and Lindhaven is still unknown, but again City Power suspect overloading due to illegal connections. The inclement weather and load-shedding have not helped in addressing the backlogs in Roodepoort, and City Power relayed that they have increased the number of teams and resources to attend to these outages as quickly as possible.

“We appeal for patience and cooperation with our teams as they do the work in the affected areas. We will communicate individual ETRs on our Twitter page @CityPowerJHB and through the councillor WhatsApp groups. We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing. We still appeal to our customers to do their part and switch off non-essential appliances to help alleviate pressure on the grid,” stated City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena.
