Drunk hit-and-run driver caught in Weltevreden Park

JMPD was requested to attend the scene and when they arrived a breathalyser test was conducted, which showed that the driver allegedly responsible for the pedestrian's injuries was more than five times over the legal limit of 0,24.

Saturday, February 26 saw yet another busy evening for the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers who are always standing by to assist.

While on patrol one of the Honeydew CPF vehicles witnessed a hit-and-run on 9th Avenue and JG Strydom Road.

Another motorist also saw the incident and gave chase when he noticed that the driver was speeding away.

While the chase was on, the patrollers stopped to assist the injured man lying in the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene and checked up on the injured pedestrian while the motorist managed to stop the fleeing driver.

The patient was then transported to a medical facility for additional treatment.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) was requested to attend the scene and when they arrived a breathalyser test was conducted, which showed that the driver allegedly responsible for the pedestrian’s injuries was more than five times over the legal limit of 0,24.

The intoxicated driver was arrested and taken to Honeydew Police Station.

“Well done to everyone involved and taking an intoxicated driver off the road,” said Honeydew CPF PRO Michael Steyn.
