Picnic and a movie with the donkeys

According to the organisers the sanctuary will be hosting these events every first Friday of the month and members of the community are invited to bring their friends and family.

Friday, February 11 saw the beginning of a night so epic that it should have been made into a movie rollout at the Rest ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary.

The last movie night was on Valentine’s Day where couples joined in to create a great sense of community while they brought their families to experience the month of love.

As a result of heavy rains in the past weeks, the initial date for the event had to be moved to Friday 11.

The community enjoyed the night out with their families while they snacked on freshly popped popcorn and delicious treats.

Paul and Megan Duvenage who both attended the movie night told the Northsider that they have been together for 17 years and were celebrating their second wedding anniversary on the day.

“We are celebrating our anniversary with the donkeys this evening and loving every moment,” said Paul.

Last year on December 5 the sanctuary hosted their very first Christmas Market and Carols by Candlelight in support of the donkeys and to end off a difficult year for most people with a smile.

According to the organisers the sanctuary will be hosting these events every first Friday of the month and members of the community are invited to bring their friends and family.

It was in 2016 when Lloreen and her husband Albert le Roux witnessed the abuse some donkeys were suffering.

As an animal lover seeing this really upset Lloreen, and she told Albert that one day they would have a sanctuary for abused donkeys, where they could retire and just live and breathe.

The animal-loving couple adopted their first three donkeys, Herbie, Eli and Simon from the SPCA in Benoni.
