‘The tree will become a monument of unity and safety’

"The tree that we are planting here today is the yellowwood which is our national tree as well as a symbol for our nation and an honour to the Campbells.”

On Wednesday, September 1 Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden (WSNBG) donated a national tree (yellowwood) to the Ipeleng Cares Foundation (ICF). The foundation chose to plant the tree in their community in honour of the Campbell family who have over the years diligently promoted community safety in Fleurhof.

The ICF was approached by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) via the WSNBG and offered two trees to plant for Arbour Week (Aug 30 – Sept 03).

ICF passed on the first tree to Laerskool Gen Delarey as their token of appreciation since the school is the pioneering group of the leaders against bullying, which is an ICF initiative.

“A big thank you to Cindy and Bradley Campbell as well as the Fleurhof CPF patrollers who also ensure, dedicate their time and resources to community safety,” said the founder of Ipeleng Cares Foundation, Ipeleng Mofokeng.

ICF donated the second tree to the foundation’s community and it was named “The Campbell’ SOS tree” in honour of Cindy and Bradley Campbell, the community members who have supported the community’s CPF and ensuring safety in the community.

“We all know that September is our Heritage Month so we have an initiative of planting all indigenous trees which are all trees found in South Africa.

“The tree that we are planting here today is the yellowwood which is our national tree as well as a symbol for our nation and an honour to the Campbells,” said Anzani Neluembeni from the SANBI Environmental Education Centre.

According to Ipeleng, the tree will become a monument of unity and safety within the community of Fleurhof.

“I am truly humbled as I did not expect this. I came in with a different expectation and I cannot say thank you enough to the Fleurhof CPF as well as the Ipeleng Cares Foundation (ICF),” said Cindy.

Dishal Sooku from De La Casa restaurant at Goldman Crossing, Florida donated vouchers in support of the community initiative that he believes is a good start to a much safer community.

“We wanted to be part of the community because of the work that the CPF does in insuring that everyone is safe. I think it’s important for businesses to support and be part of positive community initiatives,” said Dishal.
