Scaffolding put up in Weltevreden Park is illegal

A huge billboard has been slapped onto illegal scaffolding

Scaffolding that has been erected on the corner of Rugby and Cornelius Streets in Weltevreden Park has become quite an eyesore, but a billboard that was put up recently has raised concerns about the legality of the structure.

Ward 126 councillor David Brand said someone called him to bring the issue to his attention. Brand said he consequently contacted the Department of Outdoor Advertising in the City of Joburg. “The Department has rules and regulations of where you can advertise and where you can’t. I asked them to investigate and they sent an official who brought along a JMPD officer. They confirmed that no permission had been given for it, therefore it was illegal. It needs to come down,” the councillor said sternly.

Efforts to get in touch with the City of Johannesburg have been unsuccessful, but as soon as comment is received, an update will be published.
