Ebenezer Psychiatric home needs your help

This NPO is reaching out to the community for any help you are willing to give. They have outlined a small wish list, and to raise funds, a few of the residents at Ebenezer House have been creating works of art to sell in their make-shift craft shop.

There is no shortage of non-profit organisations in Roodepoort, but that does not mean that there is no need for the community to get involved.

Finding a cause that you care about and donating either your time, money, services or items they need is extremely important. Non-profit organisations rely on donations and help from community members and businesses to function. The sad reality is that without help from the community many local NPOs would cease to exist.

Ebenezer Psychiatric Home (also known as Ebenezer House) is a Witpoortjie-based NPO that is the permanent home and care facility to 26 adults that have been diagnosed with severe Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia. The home was established in 2005 with the aim of helping adults suffering from mental illnesses feel worthy and learn how to cope with their illnesses. There, the residents are in a supportive and nurturing environment where carers, psychiatrists and social workers help them get through each day with exercise regimes, skills development, creative and practical workshops, medical treatments, and so much more.

Currently, they have a very simple but essential wish list:
• Food
• Clothing for residents (they currently house 13 men and 13 women)
• Toiletries and cleaning supplies
• Anyone who may be able to fix the treadmill in their exercise room
• Craft supplies for residents
• Prizes for their fundraising golf day

As with all NPOs, financial donations go a long way. In order to raise funds, a few of the residents at Ebenezer House have been creating works of art to sell in their makeshift craft shop. Anyone can come and visit the home and look at the beautiful creations on offer, including paintings, mini-paintings, mosaic work, tablecloths, candles, aprons, jewellery and more.
