Jubilation as West Rand Chatroom turns eight

The meeting wasn’t limited to chatting about cancer-related issues because of a huge milestone the forum had achieved.

The latest West Rand Chatroom meeting went beyond normal on Saturday, 14 March.

The meeting wasn’t limited to chatting about cancer-related issues because of a huge milestone the forum had achieved.

At this particular meeting members celebrated the eighth birthday of the forum’s existence with some cake and a performance by singer, Anelise Neuwenhuizen.

The Chatroom is an inclusive community support group for anyone whose life has been impacted by cancer.

“We are a social support family helping each other to celebrate life to the utmost in spite of cancer,” said founding member Chrissie ten Krooden.

She explained that those who attend their gatherings discover that they are actually not alone in this battle. “You meet a new extended family that cares for each other. We also share our experiences, learn from professionals to help us thrive, share the load and celebrate all of life together,” she concluded.

In light of the Coronavirus outbreak which has seen President Cyril Ramaphosa calling for the suspension of events, the Chatroom also announced that they would be cancelling their meeting for April, and should resume in May.
