The first dragon boat race and introduction to dragon boating in Gauteng was at Bruma Lake back in 1999.

The sport has grown since then and GDBA hosts regular events at Florida Lake, Potchefstroom and Parys. Last year they assisted Durban with two boats and equipment to get KZN on the map.

Florida Lake is the home of dragon boating in Gauteng and has a fleet of 10 traditional teakwood dragon boats, equipment, a clubhouse, hall, braai area and ablution facilities.
