Weigh-in on delays in Pierre Road repairs

“When the section of Peter Road collapsed last year, it was repaired within a month without the need for an Environmental Impact Study, a Water Use Licence and – heaven forbid – a Heritage Impact Assessment,” a disgruntled road user said.

“If it was so easy to repair Peter Road, why not apply the same principles to fixing Pierre Road?” she further asked, elaborating that Pierre Road is an alternative route when residents of Zandspruit are rioting and that the bridge needed to be repaired quickly and cost-effectively.

MMC for Economic Development and Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott, who initially explained the shortcomings of the project, responded to the comparison of Peter Road and Pierre Road. “Peter Road was not a bridge collapse. The road surface collapsed after Vumatel workers had hit a water pipe running beneath the road, causing major water supply outages in the area,” she explained.
