Taxi crashes into tree leaving two dead

Driver in critical condition.

Two people were killed and another critically injured when a taxi crashed into a tree on Main Reef Road in Maraisburg on 15 April.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 7.15pm to find that the taxi had come to a standstill against a large tree. Three people were found lying inside the vehicle.

They found the driver trapped and in a critical condition. Two other patients, a man and woman, were also found trapped, but motionless.Unfortunately, they had already succumbed to their injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on scene.

Fire Services had to use specialised equipment to free the critically injured driver. Once freed, paramedics provided him with advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a nearby provincial hospital for urgent care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
