He said City Power was not aware of the incident since no one reported it to them. According to them they only became aware of it after seeing reports in the media. The Record also tried to contact DA Ward 71 councillor Rene Benjamin, but to no avail. Some of the residents of the complex in which Kruger resided have said that they have tried in the past to bring the dire situation with the illegal connections to her attention but that “she was impossible to get hold of”.

Kruger was electrocuted when he went to disconnect the illegal connections behind the complex. According to a resident, he either accidentally stepped on the cables or he was pushed onto them by someone. Residents who have in the past attempted to disconnect the connections have been threatened with knives by the culprits.
