City Power will be launching a one-month pilot project aiming to reduce the turnaround time for resolving unplanned electricity interruptions.
According to the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Infrastructure Services, councillor Nico de Jager, the initiative seeks to convert City Power trucks and Quantum vehicles into mobile warehouses and panel vans, in which materials will be kept for maintenance.
“This will allow technicians to go on site immediately, and help to realise the initiative’s adopted slogan ‘Serving you at electricity speed’,” the MMC said.

He explained that, when power outages occur, it might take technicians hours to arrive at the scene. “This is because they first have to place an order for the materials at the office, then collect them from the store. This procedure delays the turnaround process unnecessarily, and it often results in the technicians being stuck in traffic, instead of making their way to the scene directly,” he said.
He assured residents that he will be monitoring the project closely and will provide feedback on the outcomes of this initiative, and said, “Should this one-month project yield positive results, City Power will convert more vehicles into mobile warehouses and panel vans and residents will be provided with the quality electricity services they deserve by having their low-voltage unplanned power outages attended to swiftly and with the minimum impact.”
