Motorists wishing to travel on South Road are advised to use alternative routes, as a section of the road has been closed for sinkhole repairs.
According to the Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin, the section between Hazel Road and Pannevis Street has been closed off with barriers, as a temporary measure.

“Because of the recent heavy rainfall we experienced, not only the low-lying bridge was damaged, but a sinkhole formed in the road as well, posing a danger to motorists,” she said.

Motorists are urged to not move the barriers and drive on that section of the road, as two vehicles have already been damaged. “As soon as the contractor is appointed, they will put more permanent measures in place, which will remain until repairs are completed,” René said.
She concluded by saying, “The section of the road will remain closed until the go-ahead is given that it is safe to use again. We apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience caused, but our residents’ safety is our main concern.”
