The woman boarded a taxi with three male occupants as she wanted to go to Westgate Shopping Mall. After they had raped her they drove around and withdrew money from her account at various ATMs. Her 10-year-old son was with her and witnessed everything.

The Record is aware of at least three similar incidents in Roodepoort but it has come to light that similar cases have been reported in Soweto. The police have their eye on suspects driving white and grey Toyota Quantum taxis and will meet with taxi-industry officials soon to discuss the problem.
