Two arrested for selling stolen clothes

Sensors went off when police entered the store.

Roodepoort Police arrested two suspects yesterday (16 January) for possession of stolen goods.

They were patrolling the CBD when they saw the two men selling clothes to the public on Van Wyk Street. Police found that the clothes still had the tags of a clothing retail chain on them. They then took the men to a nearby branch of the chain. As they walked in the sensor at the door went off, indicating the items had not been paid for. The manager confirmed the clothing were from their chain, but from a branch in Johannesburg.

The men then admitted that they were in cahoots with employees at the Johannesburg branch who stole the clothing for them to sell it.

Both suspects, aged 25 and 35, were arrested for possession of stolen property and detained at Roodepoort Police Station.
