Armed robbery at dry cleaners on Ouklip Road

Suspects ripped the safe out from underneath the counter.

Last night at about 8.20pm OTB Dry Cleaners, the 24-hour dry cleaning service at the Ouklip Centre, fell prey to an armed robbery.

According to the owner, three of her employees were in the shop when three suspects forced their way in, pointed a firearm at them and demanded they showed them where the safe was. Fearing for their lives they showed the men the safe underneath the counter. The three robbers then ripped it out and fled.

The owner said she is sure the men “did their homework” because they knew how to avoid being caught on the CCTV cameras. She also expressed her dismay at a security guard who allegedly did not bother to investigate what the three men were doing at the shop so late. She also said he never bothered to alert the company he works for.

No one was injured but one of the employees, who had the firearm pointed to her head, is severely traumatised. The owner said the suspects fled with a “large amount of money”.
