Roodepoort resident is a top chef
Local chef makes a name for himself.
Roodepoort resident Johann Nienaber is this year’s winner of the Compass Group SA Top Chef competition. The finals were held at the Peermont Hotel School at Emperors Palace on 23 November. Compass SA ambassador, Reuben Riffel, was one of the judges.
Johann is a chef at Medirest Netcare Milpark Hospital and he scooped the first prize in the competition after making it through the gruelling regional finals. He then beat eight other culinary gurus from across the country to win the title.
In the finals, Johann and the other eight regional finalists in the contest were presented with a box of mystery ingredients. They had 90 minutes to prepare dishes incorporating all the ingredients they were given. At the end of competition, Reuben and his fellow judges judged the final dishes and named Johann the 2016 winner.
