Man dead after hit by train

Emergency service could not resuscitate man.

At about 8am this morning a man died at Florida Railway Station after being hit by a train.

A security guard told the police that the man was mentally disturbed and would regularly risk his life, despite their warnings, by jumping over the railway track, narrowly dodging trains. This morning the security guards saw him running towards the track and shouted at him that two trains were coming, but he had already jumped. Trying to heed their warning he turned around to avoid the train but was struck by the second one.

The man, believed to be in his thirties, was attended to by Netcare 911 paramedics. They found him in a critical condition. He then went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but despite their efforts he eventually was declared dead on the scene.

The accident will be the subject of a police investigation.
