Florida takes on Azaadville

Cricket season in full swing

Florida Cricket Club’s second team recently faced off against their Azaadville Cricket Club counterparts in a 50 overs match. Azaadville won the toss and elected to bat first.

Their opener, Mohamed Nanabawa, hit a superb 55 runs off 60 balls. However, it was their middle order batsman Aziz Bobat who set the scoreboard alight. He scored 116 runs off 76 balls and this helped the team reach a mammoth 385 runs with nine wickets down.

Florida bowler Thomas Mann took three wickets in 10 overs while Michael Pfab took two wickets in 10 overs.

It was then the turn of Florida’s batsmen, who had the task of chasing down the score. The team started off poorly with opening batsman Zaid Essop out for a duck, however, number three batter Aaqil Sarlie was there to help stabilise the innings. Unfortunately, even though his innings was rock solid, he did not have enough support from his fellow batsmen to chase down the score.

Nevertheless, Aaqil scored an impressive 122 runs off 188 balls. His highest scoring team-mate was Matthew Vickers, with 31 runs off 56 balls. Florida’s team reached 321 runs with eight wickets down, falling short of their target.
