Another pensioner attacked during armed robbery

Over and above the out-of-control crime in Witpoortjie, it now seems that criminals are specifically targeting the elderly.

At about 5pm yesterday a pensioner was attacked during an armed robbery on Retief Street. Her husband went out to visit a neighbour across the street while she was busy in the garden. Two armed suspects overpowered her, forced her into the house and tied her up with neckties. They then allegedly dragged her through the house and assaulted her while demanding the keys to the safe. She eventually handed over the keys and they took a firearm and jewellery.

When her husband returned he heard her screams and found her tied up.

A family member, who is a doctor, attended to her injuries.

West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch once again urged the elderly to be vigilant.
