Pensioners assaulted during armed robbery

Four suspects involved.

A couple, both pensioners in their 70s, were taken to hospital in the early morning hours after they had been assaulted during an armed robbery.

At about 3am this morning (9 November) West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) was called to the house in Amersfoot Street. Four armed men allegedly gained access to the house by lifting the gate off its rails and then breaking a window. The man went to investigate when he heard the window breaking but the four intruders were already in the house and confronted him in the hallway. They attacked him with their firearms and broke his wrist. His wife refused to show them where the keys to the safe were and they assaulted her with a tekkie. The victim said the intruders reversed a bakkie into the yard to load the goods they had stolen. WSRNW spokesperson Frik van Zyl said the robbers had a substantial amount of time to ransack the house.

The couple’s children took them to hospital for treatment.
