Darts club looking for members

The Breakaway Dart and Pool Club is looking to breathe new life into the game of darts. Owned by Johann von Brandis, Hennie Noortman and Schalk Zwart, the trio is aiming to make darts the most vibrant sport on the West Rand.

Since taking over the club from its previous owner, they have already had five darts teams operating under the Breakaway banner – the Treble Makers, the Tazmanian Devils, the Harleys, the Breakaways and the Flintstones – who all compete in the Darts House League. The club also has the provincial team, named the Johannesburg Darts Association (JSA), using their clubhouse to train. There are two seasons in a year in darts, the Summer league from January to June and the Winter league starting from July to November. The House League consists of 16 teams of six members each, all from the West Rand. The Breakaways are currently leading the league and are aiming to achieve the Triple Crown, which means not only winning the League but also winning the upcoming Cup Games.
Johann is urging members of the community who are interested in playing darts to pay the club a visit.

“It is a game for everyone, be it men or women or the youth. Everyone is welcome to join in and have fun. This club has been around for more than 10 years – just under a different name before we took over.”

Johann is the perfect man to ensure this club goes from strength to strength. He has a wealth of experience in the world of darts, having been a player for Transvaal before taking over as president of the West Rand Darts Association and serving as the vice president of Darts South Africa in the 90s. He also oversaw the amalgamation of the Transvaal and Western Transvaal Darts Associations with then president Gopal Padayachie, making them the first provinces in the country to join forces. He has also played in the House League for more than 10 years and has vowed to make the Breakaway Dart and Pool Club the top darts club on the West Rand.
